Adoption Process
There has been a lot of interest in our younger danes, and believe me I love it when people are interested in our dogs ;) I will however continue to stress the importance of turning in your application sooner rather than later, if you wait till the perfect dog comes along you might miss them to someone who has already turned in their app and been screened :( The only way I can make it fair is to go by first application received. So PLEASE if you are interested in adopting get your applications in!
I have outlined our adoption process below and have also included links to the adoption application online.
(1) Fill out an adoption application and submit it with the $15 application fee. (Please note: an application is not considered complete unless the application fee is turned in)
- Leaving references blank also deems an application incomplete. While we understand that you may not have a vet to fill in, the references must be filled out. I know you have at least two friends :)
(2) Once your completed application is received, we will contact you to schedule a home visit/interview. This is a requirement if we are unable to conduct a home visit we will not adopt out a dog. It is very important to us to get to know you and to become familiar with the environment where our dogs will be living. This is after all entirely about the safety and well being of these dogs .
(3) If approved after the home visit/interview (we reserve the right to deny any adoption) we will begin matching you with a dog that fits what you are looking for. If we do not have the right dog for you we will notify you as soon as it appears that we may have a dog coming in, or have a dog that suits what you are looking for.
(4) You will meet with the dog and decide at that time if you would like to make the dog an addition to your family. If so we will have you read through and sign the adoption contract, your adoption fee will be collected and your seven day trial period will begin.
- During this trial period you will live with the dog in your home and ensure that this particular dog suits your family and your lifestyle (If it does not you can return the dog for a full refund of our adoption fee DURING the seven day period). After seven days your adoption is finalized. If for any reason after this seven days you deem that you are unable to keep this dog you are required to contact JGDR and return the dog to us, (this is part of the adoption contract) under no circumstances is this dog to be re-homed, sold or given to a shelter. We will ALWAYS accept one of our dogs back. However, after the seven day trial period there will not be a refund of adoption fees.
(5) After your adoption is finalized we hope that you will live happily ever after. And to ensure that you are we conduct a follow up home visit within 1-2 months post adoption.
